Lack of remuneration and shift to popular means of entertainment have been identified as some of the reasons for decline in performing art forms and traditional dances in eastern Uttar Pradesh, government said today.
Culture Minister Shripad Nayak informed the Lok Sabha that some performing art forms from eastern UP are declining in the "age of globalisation" due to changing lifestyles and livelihood and shift of popular means of entertainment.
He also said tribal dances of Mirzapur and eastern UP are becoming rare.
"The reason is that they are not very remunerative and the practioners are gradually decreasing with time," he said.
As several members raised issues of their states related to languages and tribes facing extinction, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan suggested that the minister call MPs and listen to their issues and ensure that various schemes run by the ministry are implemented effectively.
Nayak said many steps have been taken for preserving and reviving the dying rich traditions and culture of the country.
The minister said programmes like holding of 'melas' are being implemented to showcase the culture and such art forms.
