Steps to promote film tourism

With the aim of promoting local destinations for domestic and foreign films and facilitating international film shooting, Tourism Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on February 16, 2012, Rajya Sabha was told today.
"The objectives of the MoU was promote India as a filming destination, both for international and domestic film producers and also to frame policies and guidelines for facilitating shooting of international films in India among others," said Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi in a written answer in the House.
As per the MoU, there will be constitution of a national-level committee for coordination with various stakeholders for promotion of India as a film and tourism destination and for facilitating visas for film units from overseas.
Further, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has constituted an inter-ministerial committee for promotion and facilitation of film production with the objective of facilitating shooting permission in India.
It also entails participation in various international and domestic film festivals, markets and events.
Since signing of the MoU, the Ministry has jointly participated with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in many international film festivals to create film tourism as a sub-brand of Incredible India campaign.
