The Kerala government today said it has initiated steps in cooperation with the Centre to bring home Keralites stranded in conflict-hit Yemen.
State government officials contacted the Indian Embassy in Yemen and enquired about the steps to evacuate people stranded in that country, state Minister for Non-Resident Keralites Affairs K C Joseph said here.
It was also noticed that many of the persons who made contact with the embassy did not possess passports and so, steps are underway to bring them by providing emergency certificate, he said.
The state government has also started a Helpline here and wanted persons stranded in Yemen to register their names with it, he added.
The central government had yesterday asked all Indian nationals to leave Yemen immediately given the "fragile" security situation in the conflict-hit country.
It has put the number of Indians in Yemen at 3000-3500 with a large section of them being nurses from Kerala.
