Stir threatened by truck lobby

Seeking redressal of their demands, the Odisha State Truck Owners' Federation Stir today threatened to launch a statewide stir from the midnight on June 9.
Asking the state govenrment to revoke a recent order issued by the trasnport commissioner that make provision of cancellation of fitness certificate, road permit and the registration certificate of a truck without any investigation in case of an accident.
"The Federation demands the revocation of the order with immediate effect," said federation general secretary Rabi Satpathy.
Satpathy informed that above 1.3 lakh trucks would stay off the roads bringing vital transport operations to a standstill if the "illegal" circular is not withdrawn.
The federation submitted a 11-point charter of demand with the state government.
"We will soon hold discussion with the members of the truck federation. I hope the issues can be resolved through discussion," transport and commerce minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi told reporters.
Earlier, the Odisha Bus Owners' Association has also given a call for an indefinite strike from June 5 if their demands are not fulfilled before that. The Association demands provision of a mechanism whereby there is automatic revision of bus fares in the state every time fuel prices are revised.
