Storm: Delhi's water treatment plants remain affected

A day after the massive dust storm, water treatment plants across the nation capital remained affected today as its average production capacity was reduced by 154 million gallons per day (MGD) leading to insufficient water supply to residents.
Water treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal, Sonia Vihar, Bhagirathi, Haiderpur, Nangloi and Okhla were among those which remained affected.
"Under normal conditions, the average production ranges between 833 to 835 MGD. The production yesterday is reported was 681 MGD.
"The water installation of DJB at Delhi Cantt Booster was worst affected due to disrupted power supply for more than 16 hours. The water supply was reduced by more than 80 per cent in colonies of Green Park, Munirka, JNU, R K Puram, Moti Bagh, Hauz Khas as well as in parts of the NDMC area, Mehrauli and Kishangarh," said DJB officials.
The water supply, in areas of south, south-west Delhi, north and parts of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area was also affected.
Most affected were the residents of north and north west district as the power feeders and transformers supplying electricity to DJB's ranney-wells and tubewells installed in Palla region got severely damaged due to the storm.

As per information from power discom, it might take another 24 hours to restore the power cables.
These areas are completely dependent on ground water supply and to meet the needs of the consumers in the affected areas, DJB has increased the number of tankers by diverting tanker service from areas which are less affected, officials said.
Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung is being given an update evey two hours on the situation by the CEO of DJB.
The staff at the Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) has been directed to ensure that the plants run at peak capacity.
DJB offices will remain open tomorrow to ensure restoration of water supply in affected areas and the control room will function round the clock.
