Normal life was disrupted today in several areas of Himachal Pradesh, including the state capital, after a severe storm accompanied by rain hit the state, officials said.
Strong winds uprooted trees, blew off roofs of kachha houses and disrupted power supply in Shimla town and its adjoining areas.
However, forest fires in Chama, Kangra and Shimla could be brought under control because of rains, providing much needed relief to fire fighting teams and forest department officials.
Indian Air Force choppers that were pressed into service to douse the fires were called off following the rains.
Baijnath recorded 48 mm rains, followed by Pandoh 31 mm, Gohar 30 mm, Mandi 24 mm, Jol 18 mm, Dharamsala and Sundernagar 12 mm, Palampur 8 mm, Kothi 5 mm and Manali 3mm.
Una was hottest place in the state with a maximum temperature at 40 degrees Celsius. Nahan, Bhuntar and Sundernagar recorded a high of 35.5 degrees, 35.2 degrees and 34.9 degrees Celsius respectively.
Night temperatures remained steady and Una was the warmest at night with a low of 24.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Nahan 22.7 degrees, Dharamsala 22.4 degrees, Solan 20.2 degrees,Palampur 19.5 degrees, Sundernagar 18.1 degrees, Shimla 17.4 degrees, Bhuntar 11.5 degrees, Kalpa and Manali 8 degrees
