Stranded pilgrims from Assam in Uttarakhand floods

The state government has deputed Assam Finance Commissioner and Secretary Rajiv C Joshi to visit Uttarakhand to liaise with the government there regarding the status of the stranded pilgrims from here due to the flash floods.
The state government has also appointed Sudhakar Singh, Special Branch (Z) of police, as the nodal officer to monitor the situation there, officials said.
Singh said 51 pilgrims from Assam are stranded in Uttarakhand and 15 calls have been received till now from different parts of the state, enquiring about their status.
The information received has been passed on to the Uttarakhand government, Singh said.
Meanwhile, the State Revenue and Disaster Management Department has put up two helpline numbers 0361-2380620 and 0361-2381511 with fax number 0361-2380624 for those seeking information on the whereabouts of their near and dear ones.
