The victim identified as Seema and her brother Lavpreet were collecting the residual wheat from the fields after the harvesting this morning when the gruesome incident occurred.
Their parents Nanak Chand and Jagroop Kaur were working in the fields a few acres away.
A group of 10-12 stray dogs surrounded the kids. While Lavpreet managed to flee, Seema was attacked by the dogs who ripped off her body parts.
A farmer passing by the place of the incident saw the body of a kid lying amid this group of dogs, some of which were feeding on the corpse.
When he tried to move closer to the place, the dogs started barking at him and he too was forced to flee. Meanwhile, several villagers gathered there and managed to disperse the dogs using sticks.
The villagers told reporters that the stray dogs in the area have become a menace. Over 50 animals including sheep and goats have been killed by these dogs in the recent past. PTI CORR SUN
