A 16-year-old girl was killed by a stray ox here on Monday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Preet Devi, a Class IX student, from Sakraon village adjoining Ambala city.
Preet was on her way to school when the incident occurred, police said. "The sixteen year-old was crossing a village street near her house when the ox attacked her. The girl fell on the ground as the animal hit her repeatedly. She suffered serious head injuries," an official said.
Preet was rushed to Ambala City Trauma Centre where she succumbed to injuries, officials added.
The locals said they had earlier complained on the menace of stray cattle to the administration, but allegedly no action was taken.
Two months ago, around 10 lawyers from Ambala City filed a complaint at a local court against the municipal corporation here regarding stray cattle menace.
The court had directed the corporation to take steps to check the menace.
