The rhino, on the eve of New Year, barged into the Rhino Rehabilitation Area (RRA) by damaging electric fence.
It was later involved in a territorial fight with the rhinos of the RRA. Later, the pachyderm was forced to flee from the area.
"The damaged fence was immediately repaired. Intensive combing of the area was carried out," Deputy Director of DTR, Ganesh Bhat said.
"The three-day-long combing operation and matching of unique IDs of the pachyderms established that no rhino of the RRA was roaming outside their enclosure," he said, adding that the lone rhino, which was found in the open, is from Nepal.
Bhat ruled out reports about rhinos from Dudhwa straying out of their protected area.
"The movement of rhinos in and around Salukapur has created confusion. The 34 member rhino herd in RRA including eight males, 16 females and 10 rhino calves is intact," he said.
