Strict action against cops aiding criminals: Haryana DGP

Haryana Director General of Police B S Sandhu today said strict action would be taken against police personnel who are found helping criminals.
The state police chief said action has already been initiated some such policemen were either found to be hand- in-glove with crime gangs or providing information to them.
Sandhu, who was appointed the DGP in April, said a campaign would be launched to check cases of chain and purse snatching, while anyone providing information about snatchers would be given a reward of up to Rs one lakh.
Sandhu, according to an official release issued here, said 'Operation Durga' would be launched in villages of Haryana to put an end to the menace of eve-teasing outside schools.
The DGP also said a special task force would be constituted to deal with drug trafficking, unlawful acts, organised crime, illegal weapons and gang-wars in the state.
He said the proposal for this has been accorded an in- principle approval.

The task force would include an officer of Inspector General of Police-level, two Superintendents of Police and four Deputy Superintendents of Police, who would gather information regarding organised crime, Sandhu said.
A centralised police control room is being set up in Panchkula where information related to the entire state would be gathered and referred to police stations concerned for immediate action.
For this purpose, 600 new PCR vehicles are being purchased which would be operated through GPS and computer. Ambulance and fire brigade would also be linked with this control room to deal with any incident at the earliest, he added.
In order to meet the shortage of police personnel, 4,500 constables have been recruited while the recruitment process another 7,000 was underway, the state police chief said.
Out of these, 6,000 are males and 1,000 are females, he said, adding all vacant posts would be filled by next year.
