Cachar Deputy Commissioner Harendra Deva Mahanta told PTI today that efforts were on to initiate talks with Deputy Commissioner of Kolasib district in Mizoram and a letter had already been sent to him in this regard.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Barenya Das has already visited the border area and the state government has been apprised of the prevailing situation.
Forest Ranger Ratnadip Dey has filed an FIR with the police alleging unidentified miscreants had destroyed a border pillar and the Deputy Commissioner has already ordered an investigation into the incident.
The border pillar between Assam and Mizoram was destroyed by unidentified miscreants last week in the area.
Several organisations of the district had taken out a procession yesterday to protest the incident and demanded measures to immediately resolve the dispute between the two states.
The organisations had also alleged that two prominent Mizoram bodies -- Young Man Association (YMA)and Mizo Zirlai (MZP) -- were primarily responsible for occupying Assam's land in Cachar district since 2007.
