About 4,000 newspaper hawkers are on strike since yesterday demanding hike in their commission in proportion to the increased rates of newspapers.
"The newspaper owners have been increasing rates day-by-day but our commission is the same. We demanded increased commission, but the issue has not been addressed," a representative of the hawkers said.
No hawker picked newspapers from any of the 14 distribution centers in the city, he said.
However, publishers made arrangements to make newspapers available to readers at public places like temples, dairy booths and gardens.
