student of an engineering institute was allegedly attacked by six unidentified persons, police said today.
The injured was identified as P Satish, a student of mechanical engineering at Visakha Institute of Engineering and Technology (VIET), Narava area here.
He had been admitted to a private hospital at Gopalapatnam area in the city.
Inspector of Police, Pendurthi, J Murali said that the warden of the institute, K Jaganmohan, had demanded Rs 2,000 from another second year diploma student Uday Kumar.
"Uday Kumar gave his bank debit card to the warden and disclosed the PIN to him for withdrawal of money. However, the warden did not withdraw money and returned the card to Uday the next day saying that some alternate arrangement has been done," he said.

Satish believed that the ATM card belonged to the warden and withdrew the cash and later handed over the card and money to him. However, the next day, Satish came to know that his classmate Uday Kumar had lost his ATM card and someone has fraudulently withdrawn Rs 10,000.
"Suspecting that it was the foul play of warden Jaganmohan, Satish confronted the latter over the issue. However, the warden tried to bribe Satish by offering Rs 5,000 to him. But, Satish threatened to expose him," he said.
"A case has been registered against the warden Jaganmohan and six others under IPC section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) and a manhunt has been launched for all the accused," the Inspector said.
