"Yesterday itself I had asked the vice-chancellor of the university to take necessary steps and today he has informed me that the process has started," Chatterjee told reporters here.
The minister said police has been asked to take strict action and no one involved in the incident would be spared.
JU registrar Dr Pradip Kumar Ghosh told PTI that the university's internal sexual harassment committee is looking into the complaint.
"Our own investigations are going on and we are also cooperating with the police as a case has already been lodged," Ghosh said.
