The protesters assembled at the Kartar Singh Sarabha Hall here and after paying homage to the Delhi gang-rape victim, they marched to the Government National College where more students joined in.

The students then headed for the national highway and blocked vehicular traffic both ways by sitting on a dharna there.

Raising anti-government slogans, they demanding maximum possible punishment for the rape accused.

Student leader Roshan Suchan, addressing the group of protesters, claimed that condition of women safety in Haryana was no worst than Delhi.

He also lashed out at Khap Panchayats for passing on "irrational" diktats on issues concerned with women.

The protesters agreed to lift the blockade after being assured by City Magistrate Satish Kumar that their sentiments would be conveyed to the quarters concerned.
