Students celebrate Earth Day with Delhi CM

Over 3,000 students from various schools today celebrated Earth Day with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at a colourful event at her residence.
Speaking on the occasion, Dikshit asked the students to care for nature to ensure a better future.
"More than 3,000 students from eco-clubs in various Delhi schools have come to spend half day at the nature trail here. We enjoyed this day with a picnic-like atmosphere prevailing. We have taken a pledge to conserve earth," said the Chief Minister.
The functioned was organised at the 'Nature Trail' in Dikshit's residence at 3 Motilal Nehru Marg in Central Delhi.

The Nature Trail has exotic flora and fauna and indigenous trees like 'imli', 'neem' and 'babul' besides habitats of bats and various birds.
The Environment Department organised the event to celebrate Earth Day. Dikshit also released a book "The Biodiversity of Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary" on the occasion.

The natural trail was decorated with eco-friendly material and was divided into various parts for activities like story-telling session, making of animal masks and film screening session.
"It was an amazing experience of learning by participating in various activities here. I participated in so many new activities here. I learnt about ways to conserve our planet," said Ilika Anand of Ryan International School.

Arti Mehta of the same school said, "The activities at the carnival and surrounding of this natural trail will definitely inculcate lessons to students on conserving our planet."
Sharing the vision behind the event, Secretary, Department of Environment, Sanjeev Kumar said, "Our focus was to celebrate this day with students at the nature trail so that we can teach students about conservation of environment.
