Student violence resurfaced in West Bengal when two groups clashed outside a college at Kaliachak in Malda district during election to the student union today.
Unofficial sources said that students belonging to the SFI and TMCP clashed on the road outside the college with firearms.
Malda SP Kalyan Mukherjee, however, denied use of any firearm in the clash, though tv footage clearly showed it.
The SP said that the Inspector of Police of Kaliachak Police Station went to the spot with a force and brought the situation under control.
Union Minister of State and Congress leader Abu Hashem Khan Chowdhury blamed the TMCP, student wing of the Trinamool Congress, for the clash.
He alleged the TMCP was trying to prevent holding of election to the student union in the college.
