Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde said Wednesday that the process of students council elections will be completed by September 30 in the next academic session.

The elections to students councils in colleges and universities will be held as per the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee, Tawde told reporters here.

The election program will be declared before July 31 and by September 30 the university students councils would be constituted, he said.

"Elections will be held on the principle of straight majority. The election to university council and college councils under that university will be held on the same day," Tawde said.

There will be no political interference in the elections, he said.

"Those desirous of contesting elections should enrol for a full-time academic course in any recognised university or college in the academic year," the minister said.

College elections were banned in the early 1990s.
