The indefinite hunger strike by eight college students here, demanding action against Sri Lanka for alleged war crimes, has entered the third day today.
BJP have extended its support to students while the opposition parties have asked them to withdraw the strike.
"BJP extends its full support to the students (on strike)," party state president Pon Radhakrishnan said in a statement.
DMK President M Karunanidhi had urged them to withdraw their fast and resort to other peaceful means of protest.
DMDK chief Vijayakanth praised the students for their spirit of 'sacrifice', but said they should give up the fast and take up peaceful agitation for rehabilitation of Sri Lankan Tamils.
Eight students of Loyola College began their fast on Friday to press for their seven-point charter of demands, including an independent probe against Colombo for alleged war crimes, referendum on Tamil Eelam (separate homeland for Tamils) and slapping economic sanctions on Sri Lanka.
Whereas, MDMK chief Vaiko met the students and expressed his party's support to them.
