With the slaughter of schoolchildren in Peshawar still rankling our heart, thousand students rallied in the city today accompanied by people from different walks of life in a slient protest against mindless violence.
Jessie Rafel, Mauli Trivedi - two visiting Australian citizens - said, "When we heard about the Sydney cafe siege incident here we thought God it was a popular coffee joint our friends frequent there. Who would have known it will be targetted by terrorists! But then the news and visuals of the Peshwar attack a week back seemed to erase all previous memories of wanton barbarism. Don't know what lies in store if the terrorists have their way."
They were seconded by Christian Jensen, a toursing German youth accompanying the two girls in the rally organised by Lions Club International.
"Words fail to express our sense of outrage. The mood of the gathering can be reflected in the words of the little girl who recited 'Maa...Kabhi wapas nahi ayoonga. It brought tears into my eyes,", socialite and famous media personality Rita Bhimani said.
Danceuse Alokananda Roy, when contacted, said "I feel deeply disturbed whenever the incident flashes in my mind.."
Our Lions Club International wing will share the uploads with our cunterparts in Pak cities of over 2000 Kolkata school children and about 1000 children from NGOs walking a two-km distance and holding placards like 'Terrorism has no religion'.
We had plans of live videostreaming by Skype. But that fell through," a Lions Club International MD 322 spokesperson said.
