Students staged a road block agitation in front of the University college here today demanding that the ongoing work on the Yettinahole (Nethravati river diversion) project be stopped.
The protest was staged under the banner of All College Students Association (ACSA).
ACSA state legal advisor Dinakr Shetty, who spoke on the occasion, said there was every chance of the city being affected by water scarcity if the project was implemented. He wanted all sections of people to join the protest against the project, which was a threat to the people of Dakshina Kannada district.
Shetty strongly critcised former Chief Minister Veerappa Moily and Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda for extending support to the project. Traffic was resumed after police removed the protestors.
Activists of Tulunada Rakshana Vedike had taken out padayatra yesterday against the Netravathi diversion project. The Vedike termed as a 'blatant lie' the government's claim that only water collected during the rainy season would be diverted.
