Students protest with fire pots to press their demand

Intensifying their 12-day long protest demanding that the government take over their college, around 50 students of the aided institution here today staged a novel stir holding 'fire pots' in their hands.
The students of Chikkiah Naicker College, one of the oldest in the district, have been on staging different forms of agitations for the past 12 days to press their demand, with the support of Students Federation of India, trade unions and local farmers association.
Faced with the protest, the college administration, under the control of Joint Director of Collegiate Education for the past 11 years, has ordered its idefinite closure.
Meanwhile, members of SFI said they would meet the Chief Minister on Monday and submit a representation on their demand.
Students of the college, started in 1954 on a 54 acre land, are demanding its take over by government alleging it was offering only 11 courses and no new courses had been introduced.
