A section of union members of prestigious Krishnananagar Women's College today allegedly ransacked the Principal's chamber protesting lack of funds for freshers' welcome programme.
College staff said some of the students damaged the window glasses, chairs, tables and other valuables of the chamber of Principal Manabi Bandopadhyay who was not present at that time.
Assistant General Secretary of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad controlled union Sabina Khatun said, "While the preparation were over and the invitation cards already distributed for the December 11 event, the students suddenly came to know from the clerical staff that no order of releasing fund was yet received for the said programme. And they got agitated."
However, Khatun termed the ransacking students' conduct as arrogant.
Stating she was not apprised about any such incident from the college staff, Principal Manabi Bandopadhyay, away in Burdwan to attend a seminar, said, "there was no assurance to pay the fund on this very day. And I had already asked the students to take preparations for the programme pledging support."
TMCP, Nadia district unit President Ayan Dutta said, "I have heard about tension in the college but do not know whether the students ransacked any office. If such a thing happened, that is unfortunate. But the programme will take place on time.
