Subdued temperature in North, death toll in storm touches 55

The death toll due to massive storm in North and Eastern parts of the country today shot up to 55 while temperature in most areas of the regions remained below 40 degree Celsius.
In the national capital, temperature remained in check as the maximum was recorded at 37.8 degree Celsius, three notches below the normal level. The minimum temperature stood at 25.6 deg C.
The Meteorological department has predicted possibility of another dust storm later in the night today. Humidity oscillated between 38 to 72 per cent during the last 24 hours.
A massive thunderstorm lashed Delhi and many other states on the evening of May 30 and the next morning.

Eight people were killed in Odisha and report of death of two more persons came from West Bengal taking the death toll in the state to 12 due to the storm today.
At least 14 people were killed in Delhi and the NCR region. While in Uttar Pradesh, at least 14 people were killed due to the thunderstorm.

In Jharkhand, seven persons were killed in storm that raged across the state yesterday morning.
In UP, light to moderate showers occurred at a few places during the last 24 hours.
Day temperatures fell appreciably in Faizabad and Lucknow divisions while it increased in Meerut division.

The maximum temperature was 45.5 degree Celsius in Orai city of Jalaun district.
Temperature in most parts of Punjab and Haryana dropped by a few notches after scattered showers.
Union Territory Chandigarh witnessed maximum temperature at 38.8 deg C, according to the meteorological department.
Ambala recorded maximum at 38.3 deg C, down by two notches.
Ludhiana and Patiala had a high of 37.7 deg C and 39.1 deg C, down by up to three notches below normal.
Amritsar, which had rainfall of 0.4 mm, recorded high at 36.2 deg C, a drop of 4 degrees.
However, Rajasthan continued to reel under heat wave as temperature in Jaipur was recorded at 43.6 deg C. Minimum temperature was 27.7 deg C.

Chittorgarh was the hottest place with the maximum temperature of 44.2 degree C.
Light to moderate rains occurred at isolated places in Jaipur, Bikaner, and Ajmer divisions with Udaipur recording the maximum rainfall of 10.4 mm during the last 24 hours, the Met said.
