Farmers should continue to get subsidy on fertilisers as they can't be left at the mercy of market forces, Singh, a former Union Agriculture Minister, said while addressing a gathering here.
He said the price of DAP (Diammonium phosphate) fertiliser had doubled in the last four months and the UPA Government was responsible for this.
The former BJP president demanded immediate implementation of suggestions made by a M S Swaminathan-headed commission.
Singh also said the river-linking project, envisaged during the NDA Government, should be implemented at the earliest as it will benefit farmers.
