Suburban services hit as Udyan Express engine derails near CST

Two wheels of the engine of Bengaluru -bound Udyan Express today derailed soon after its departure from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus resulting in disruption of suburban rail services and rescheduling of some long-distance trains.
No casualty was reported in the incident, officials said.
The derailment occurred at a cross over point shortly after the train left the platform no 17 of CST station at 8.14 AM. It was later brought backed to the platform. The train finally departed for Bengaluru at 3.32 PM with a new engine, the Central Railway said in a statement.
The incident hit the operation of suburban services, resulting into cancellation of 70 services on main line.
"Down and Up fast line suburban services were diverted on Down and Up slow lines respectively. Services on Down fast line resumed from 09.04 AM and on Up fast line resumed from 10.15 AM. 70 services were cancelled and services were running behind schedule by 20-30 minutes on main line due to bunching," said the statement.
Central Railway PRO A K Singh said Udyan Express was brought back to platform no 17 and the passengers were given food packets, snacks, tea, water bottle and the train left at 3.32 PM.

"Owing to the incident, three express trains had to change terminus while seven trains were rescheduled," he said.
Due to the derailment, 12534 CST-Lucknow Pushpak Express departed at 9.20 AM, an hour late from its scheduled departure, while 11029 CST-Kolhapur Koyna Express at 8.40 AM instead of its scheduled departure at 9.26 AM.
Singh said the CR made continuous announcements on platforms about the late running of suburban services, change in terminus and rescheduling of long-distance trains due to the derailment.
