"The people of Nepal are preparing to vote in their Constituent Assembly election on November 19. Holding successful elections would help cement the peace process that was started in 2006," State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said.
"Over the next days and weeks, as complete results of these polls become known, the US urges patience, non-violence, and respect for a democratic process," she said.
Nepal will elect a 601-member assembly to draft a new Constitution. The polls to elect the Constituent Assembly are the second national elections since Nepal's 10-year civil war ended in 2006.
