Sugar climbs on pick up in demand

Sugar recorded a steep rise of Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in national capital today following increased offtake by stockists and bulk consumers amid tight supplies from mills.
Besides, revised estimates of sugar deficit in global markets by International Sugar Organisation (ISO) and Rabobank also supported the uptick in sweetener prices at the domestic markets here.
Marketmen attributed sharp rise in sweetener prices to increased buying by stockists as well as bulk consumers include soft-drink and ice-cream makers ahead of summer season and restricted supplies from mills.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices shot up by Rs 100 each to finish at Rs 3,480-3,600 and Rs 3,470-3,590 per quintal.
Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices also climbed up by Rs 70 each to end at Rs 3,190-3,260 and Rs 3,180-3,250 per quintal.
In the millgate section, sugar Dorala, Thanabhavan, Budhana, Dhanora, Dhampur and Malakpur swifted by Rs 70 each to Rs 3,220, Rs 3,210, Rs 3,220, 3,210, Rs 3,200 and Rs 3,220 per quintal.

Sugar Mawana, Anupshaher, Ramala, Baghpat, Chandpur and Morna dropped by Rs 60 each to Rs 3,210, Rs 3,200, Rs 3,210, Rs 3,220, Rs 3,190 and Rs 3,220 per quintal, respectively.
