Sugar prices were up by 0.40 per cent to Rs 3,555 per quintal in futures market today as traders created fresh positions amid pick-up in demand from bulk consumers in the spot market.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in July rose by Rs 14, or 0.40 per cent to Rs 3,555 per quintal with an open interest of 42,830 lots.
Likewise, the sweetener for delivery in far-month October gained Rs 10, or 0.27 per cent to Rs 3,669 per quintal in 7,940 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in sugar futures to fresh positions built up by participants due to pick up in demand from bulk consumers as well as retailers in the spot market.
