Sugar futures gain 0.42% as demand picks up

Riding on strong demand from bulk consumers in the spot markets, sugar prices rose 0.42 per cent to Rs 3,790 per quintal in futures market today as participants built up fresh positions.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in October month rose by Rs 16, or 0.42 per cent to Rs 3,790 per quintal with an open interest of 10,140 lots.
Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in July contracts went up by Rs 9, or 0.25 per cent to Rs 3,665 per quintal in 39,820 lots.
Analysts said the rise in sugar prices at futures trade was attributed to widening of positions by traders after demand from bulk consumers picked up in the spot market.
