Sugar futures up 0.3% on spot demand

The sweetener for delivery in far-month May edged up by Rs 5, or 0.15 per cent to Rs 3,258 per quintal in 72,250 lots

Sugar prices were up by 0.3 per cent to Rs 3,146 per quintal in futures trade today as participants indulged in creating fresh positions due to pick up in demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in March month rose by Rs 11, or 0. per cent to Rs 3,146 per quintal with an open interest of 91,700 lots.

Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in far-month May edged up by Rs 5, or 0.15 per cent to Rs 3,258 per quintal in 72,250 lots.

Analysts said participants built up fresh positions, driven by pick up in demand from retailers as well as bulk consumers in the spot market mainly led to the rise in sugar prices at futures trade.
