Sugar jumps on supply squeeze, rising demand

Sugar prices jumped at the Vashi wholesale market on rising demand from stockists and retailers amid forthcoming festive seasons as well as ongoing transport strike.
"Supplies squeezed as the nationwide trucker strike entered for the fifth day," a dealer said.
Medium sugar (M-30) spurted by Rs 142/146 per quintal to Rs 2,792/2,922 from last Saturday's closing of Rs 2,650/ 2,776.
Small sugar (S-30) surged Rs 140/158 per quintal to Rs 2,690/2,820 as against Rs 2,550/2,662 last weekend.
Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:
Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,690/2,820 (Rs 2,550/2,662).
Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 2,792/2,922 (Rs 2,650/2,776).
