Prices of sugar mills were up by Rs 30 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today, largely supported by increased offtake by bulk consumers amid pause in supplies from mills.
Marketmen attributed the rise in sweetener prices to continued buying by bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers and retailers, triggered by ongoing festive and wedding season.
Prices of sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 edged higher to Rs 2,730-3,000 and Rs 2,720-2,990 from previous close of Rs 2,730-2,980 and Rs 2,720-2,970 per quintal.
In the millgate section, sugar Khatuli rose Rs 30 at Rs 3,000, while Kinnoni by Rs 20 at Rs 3,000 per quintal.
Asmoli, Dorala, Ramala and Budhana also traded higher by Rs 10 each to Rs 2,980, Rs 2,840, Rs 2,750 and Rs 2,840 per quintal.
On the other hand, sugar spot prices closed lower by Rs 50 to end at Rs 2,950-3,150 and Rs 2,940-3,140 per quintal.
