Sugar price firms up on brisk demand, thin supply

Sugar prices firmed up by Rs 150 per quintal in the national capital today following brisk buying support amid thin supply.
Marketmen said frantic buying by stockist and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers against tight supply from mills mainly pushed up sweetener prices.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices shot up from Rs 3200-3400 and Rs 3190-3390 to close at Rs 3300-3550 and Rs 3290-3540 per quintal, respectively.
Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices also climbed up from Rs 3190-3320 and Rs 3180-3310 to end at Rs 3240-3410 and Rs 3230-3400 per quintal.
Among millgate including duty section, sugar Asmoli spurted by Rs 130 to Rs 3350 per quintal.
Prices of Mawana, Dhampur, Budhaa and Thanabhavan also jumped up by Rs 100 each to Rs 3290, Rs 3300, Rs 3310 and Rs 3300 per quintal, respectively.
