Sugar price hiked at PDS following cut in subsidy by Centre:

The Tamil Nadu government has increased the price of sugar supplied at public distribution outlets as the Centre had reduced the subsidy given to it, Cooperative minister Sellur K Raju said today.
Talking to newsmen here, he said that the price of sugar supplied at ration shops was increased to Rs 25 per kg from Rs 13.50 from November one.
The Centre has reduced the subsidy for it, he said.
The sugar was sold at Rs 40 per kg in the open market, he said.
The minister said the government was taking steps to ensure availability of other groceries including rice and pulses at the ration shops.
He said the government had taken steps on war footing to eradicate the dengue fever.
