Sugar prices climb Rs 120 on tight supply

Sugar saw a significant rise of Rs 120 per quintal in its prices at the wholesale market in the national capital today, largely supported by pause in supplies from mills amid speculative buying by stockists.
Meanwhile, sugar prices in the retail market in the national capital are quoting higher at almost Rs 45 per kg.
Marketmen said restricted supplies from mills following diversion and blockage of roads in Uttar Pradesh on account of ongoing auspicious 'Kanwar-Yatra', and increased demand from stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers, mainly attributed to the rise in sweetener prices.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 recorded a hefty rise of Rs 120 per quintal at Rs 3,930-4,020 and Rs 3,920-4,010, respectively.
Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices also climbed by Rs 70 per quintal each to Rs 3,590-3,700 and Rs 3,580-3,690, respectively.
In the millgate section, sugar Asmoli spurted by Rs 70 to Rs 3,680, followed by Kinnoni, Ramala, Anupshaher, Baghpat, Sakoti, Morna and Nazibabad by Rs 60 each to Rs 3,700, Rs 3,590, Rs 3,580, Rs 3,610, Rs 3,600, Rs 3,610 and Rs 3,590 per quintal, respectively.
