Sugar prices jump on rising demand

Sugar prices spurted by Rs 150 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today on high demand for the sweetener.
Marketmen attributed the sharp rise in sugar prices to strong demand from bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers following beginning of summer season.
They said, however, reports of higher output this marketing year, capped the gains.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 climbed to Rs 2,800-2,940 and Rs 2,790-2,930 from Rs 2,650-2,800 per quintal.
Similarly, mill delivery M-30 and S-30 edged up to Rs 2,570-2,760 and Rs 2,560-2,750 from last close of Rs 2,480-2,640 and Rs 2,470-2,620 per quintal.
In the millgate section, Mawana, Kinnoni, Asmoli, Dorala and Budhana were also enquired higher at Rs 2,660, Rs 2,760, Rs 2,710,Rs 2,660 and Rs 2,660 from previous levels of Rs 2,520, Rs 2,640,Rs 2,550,Rs 2,525 and Rs 2,540 per quintal respectively.
