Sugar prices move up on strong demand, thin arrivals

Sugar prices improved by Rs 30 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following strong demand from bulk consumers amid thin supplies from mills.
Marketmen said pick in demand from stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers ahead of new month, triggered by thin arrivals from mills, mainly pushed up sweetener prices.
Sugar spot M-30 and S-30 prices were higher by Rs 30 each to end at Rs 3,970-4,050 and Rs 3,960-4,040 per quintal.
Likewise, mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices rose by Rs 25 each to settle at Rs 3,660-3,760 and Rs 3,650-3,750 per quintal.
In the millgate section, sugar Kinnoni, Simbholi, Khatuli and Asmoli hardened by up to Rs 30 to end at Rs 3,760, Rs 3,745, Rs 3,750 and Rs 3,745 per quintal.
Prices of Mawana, Dorala, Ramala, Baghpat and Sakoti also gained up to Rs 20 to finish at Rs 3,720, Rs 3,700, Rs 3,680, Rs 3,690 and Rs 3,680 per quintal, respectively.
