Sugar prices recover on pick-up in demand

After witnessing a long spell of falling trend, sugar prices recovered by Rs 50 per quintal, but still remained at five-year lows at the wholesale market in the national capital today, mostly supported by buying from bulk consumers.
Besides, pause in supplies from mills helped the sweetener to trade higher.
Traders said apart from fall in supplies from mills, pick-up in demand from bulk consumers, including soft-drink and ice-cream makers due to rise in temperature, supported the recovery in prices.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices were higher by Rs 50 each to conclude at Rs 2,600-2,750 and Rs 2,590-2,740 per quintal.
Similarly, mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices enquired higher by Rs 50 each to Rs 2,400-2,580 and Rs 2,390-2,560 per quintal.
In millgate section, sugar Kinnoni, Dorala, Modinagar, Thanabhavan and Budhana remained the fancy of traders, rose by Rs 50 each to Rs 2,580, Rs 2,475, Rs 2,470, Rs 2,480 and Rs 2,490 per quintal, respectively.

Prices of Asmoli and Dhampur moved up by Rs 20 each to Rs 2,540 and Rs 2,460, while Mawana asked higher by Rs 30 at Rs 2,470 per quintal.
