Sugar prices remain down on ample supply

Sugar prices fell further by up to Rs 70 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today due to mounting stocks following persistent supplies by mills amid subdued demand.
Marketmen said steady inflow of supplies by mills against subdued demand from bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers mainly led to the fall in sweetener prices.
Besides, higher output reports put pressure on prices, they said.
Sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices were down by Rs 60 each to settle at Rs 2,610-2,780 and Rs 2,600-2,760 per quintal.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices also eased by Rs 10 each to Rs 2,720-2,930 and Rs.2,710-2,910 per quintal.
In millgate section, government and co-operative mills suffered the most and prices of Baghpat, Ramala, Nazibabad and Morna traded Rs.70 each lower at Rs.2,650, Rs.2,640, Rs.2,630 and Rs.2,650, while Anupshar lost Rs.60 at Rs.2,610 per quintal.
