Sugar prices spurt on brisk demand, thin supply

Sugar prices surged by Rs 150 per quintal in the national capital today following rising demand amid tight supply from mills.
Marketmen said frantic buying by stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers ahead of summer season mainly pushed up the sugar prices.
Thin supply from mills amid insufficient stocks position also helped to boost the trading sentiments.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices climbed up from Rs 3,200-3,400 and Rs 3,190-3,390 to finish at Rs 3,350-3,550 and Rs 3,340-3,540, showing a sharp gain of Rs 150 per quintal.
Similarly, mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices jumped up from Rs 3,050-3,200 and Rs 3,040-3,190 to conclude at Rs 3,210-3,350 and Rs 3,200-3,340, revealing heavy profits of Rs 150 per quintal.
Among millgate section, prices of Kinnoni asked higher at Rs 3,350, Mawana at Rs 3,245 and Simbholi at Rs 3,300 per quintal, all persisting gains up to Rs 150 per quintal.
