Sugar prices up on fresh buying, restricted supply

Sugar prices rose up to Rs 20 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following increased buying by stockists and bulk consumers amid pause in supplies from mills.
Marketmen said besides halt in supplies from mills, increased offtake by stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers ahead of festive season, mainly supported the upside in sweetener prices.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices traded higher by Rs 10 each to settle the day at Rs 3,960-4,060 and Rs 3,950-4,050 per quintal.
Similarly, mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices advanced by Rs 10 each to Rs 3,640-3,800 and Rs 3,630-3,790 per quintal.
In the millgate section, Sugar Budhana, Thanabhavan, Sakoti, Asmoli, Khatuli and Dhampur all gained Rs 15 each to finish at Rs 3,725, Rs 3,720, Rs 3,675, Rs 3,760, Rs 3,765 and Rs 3,675 per quintal, respectively.
