Sugar prices up on heavy buying; thin arrivals

Sugar prices edged higher by Rs 30 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following increased demand due to the ongoing festive season amid restricted supplies from mills.
Marketmen said pick up in demand from retailers, stockists and bulk consumers for the ongoing festive season coupled with tight supplies from mills, mainly supported the upside in sweetener prices.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices closed higher by Rs 30 each to end at Rs 3,950-4,150 and Rs 3,940-4,140 compared from last close of Rs 3,920-4,150 and Rs 3,910-4,140 per quintal.
In the millgate section, sugar asmoli, dorala and dhanora advanced by Rs 20 each to end at Rs 3,760, Rs 3,680 and Rs 3,640 per quintal.
Sugar Dhampur, Anupshaher, Morna and Sakoti also looked up by Rs 10 each to Rs 3,630, Rs 3,610, Rs 3,620 and Rs 3,640 per quintal.
