Sugar prices up on thin supply, brisk demand

Sugar prices firmed up by Rs 40 per quintal in the wholesale sugar market at national capital today following thin supply from mills amid buying by stockist and bulk consumers.
Marketmen said brisk demand from stockists, retailers and bulk consumers such as soft-drink, ice-cream and sweet makers, mainly led the rise in sweetener prices.
Surge in international markets alongwith government notification on export subsidy further supported sugar prices, they said.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices gained by Rs 40 to settle at Rs 3,170-3,360 and Rs 3,160-3,350 per quintal, respectively.
Similarly, mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices hardened from Rs 2,970-3,195 and Rs 2,960-3,185 to end at Rs 3,000-3,200 and Rs 2,990-3,190 per quintal.
Among millgate section, sugar Kinnoni enquired higher at Rs 3,200, Mawana at Rs 3,100 and Dhampur rose by Rs 20 at Rs 3,090 per quintal.
