Sugar prices up on wedding season demand, thin supply

Sugar prices rose higher by Rs 30 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following increased demand from retailers and bulk consumers amid tight supplies from mills.
Marketmen attributed rise in sweetener prices to fall in arrivals from mills against pick-up in demand from retailers, stockists and bulk consumers such as soft-drinks and ice-cream makers, driven by ongoing marrige season.
In price section, sugar mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices went up by Rs 30 each to conclude at Rs 3,520-3,640 and Rs 3,510-3,630 per quintal, respectively.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices also rose by Rs 20 each to end at Rs 3,840-3,900 and Rs 3,830-3,890 per quintal, respectively.
In the millgate section, sugar Kinnoni, Asmoli and Sakoti gained the most by Rs 30 each at Rs 3,640, Rs 3,610 and Rs 3,560 per quintal.
Sugar Dhanora, Budhana, Thanabhavan, Dorala, Khatuli and Dhampur advanced by Rs 25 each to Rs 3,575, Rs 3,585, Rs 3,575, Rs 3,590, Rs 3,625 and Rs 3,565 per quintal, respectively.
