Traders attributed the rise in sugar prices to rising demand from retailers and bulk consumers amid a firming trend overseas.
Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 advanced to Rs 3,200-3,400 and Rs 3,190-3,390, respectively, from previous levels of Rs 3,190-3,310 and Rs 3,180-3,300 per quintal.
Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 followed suit and edged higher to Rs 2,980-3,240 and Rs 2,970-3,230, respectively, from last close of Rs 2,880-3,130 and Rs 2,870-3,120 per quintal.
In the millgate section, Mawana, Kinnoni, Asmoli, Dorala and Budhana also quoted higher at Rs 3,140, Rs 3,240, Rs 3,230 Rs 3,140 and Rs 3,140 as against Rs 3,020, Rs 3,120, Rs 3,120, Rs 3,020 and Rs 3,030 per quintal, respectively.
