Sugar prices registered a gain of Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following tight supplies in view of ongoing nationwide truckers' strike amid better offtake by bulk consumers as well as stockists.

Marketmen said, fall in arrivals from mills due to truckers' strike along with pick up in demand from stockists and bulk consumers, mainly led to up tick in sweetener prices.

All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) started a nationwide indefinite strike on July 20 and their demands included a reduction in central and state taxes by getting diesel under the GST so that price of the deregulated commodity can be reduced.

Sugar ready M-30 and S-30 prices rose most by Rs 50 each to end at Rs 3,650-3,780 and Rs 3,640-3,770 per quintal, respectively.

Mill delivery M-30 and S-30 prices also enquired higher by Rs 20 each to conclude at Rs 3,320-3,460 and Rs 3,310-3,45- per quintal, respectively.

In the mill gate section, sugar Mawana, Kinnoni, Dhanora and Khatuli moved up by Rs 10 each to Rs 3,380, Rs 3,460, Rs 3,420 and Rs 3,430, while sugar Dorala edged up by Rs 5 to Rs 3,365 per quintal, respectively.
