Sugarcane growers to intensify their stir for arrears: MLA

Sugarcane growers will intensify their agitation for the arrest of owner of Modi Sugar Mill, its Commercial Manager and Chief Executive Officer against whom an FIR was lodged in June last year for non-payment of the arrears, local MLA Sudesh Sharma said today.
He said, after the arrest of trustee of Modi Sugar Mill N K Sharma yesterday, the sugarcane growing farmers will further intensify their agitation and built a pressure on the district administration for the arrest of mill owner Umesh Kumar Modi, commercial manager V K Jain and CEO V K Luthra against whom an FIR was lodged on June, 22 last year for non-payment of sugar cane arrears.
Yesterday, a meeting was convened at Modi Nagar tehsil conference hall by Sub Divisional Magistrate Atul Kumar to sort out arrear issue, the RLD MLA said.
The meeting was attended by District Sugarcane Officer Namita Kashyap, Modi Sugar Mill trustee N K Sharma, local MLA Sudesh Sharma along with hundreds of sugarcane farmers.
"At the very onset of meeting, I opposed the presence of Modi Sugar Mill trustee NK Sharma in the tripartite meeting who was an accused in the FIR lodged under sections 420, 406, 120B of Indian Penal Code and section 3/7 of Essential Commodities Act," said Sharma.
He further alleged that district administration was not making sincere efforts to arrest the mill owners so that sugar cane farmers can get their payments around Rs 150 crore till date.
