Inaugurating one such 'Saanjh Kendra' at Model Town here, Sukhbir reiterated his commitment to change public perceptions of functioning of the police department, and said the centres would provide various police-related services to the public within a prescribed time frame.
"When I assumed office as the state Home Minister, the people were scared to go to police stations and I have decided to change the perception of police with administrative reforms," he said.
He claimed the Centre and the Pakistan government were to follow the model. "A team from Pakistan is coming for details of the concept and functioning of these kendras, and the Centre has decided to make it a part of planning," he said.
Promising a paperless administration within a year, the Deputy Chief Minister said the process of online services delivery had begun in Mansa and Mohali.
Speaking on the issue of corruption on the role of Lokpal, Sukhbir said, "I think this institution alone will not be able to wipe it out and we have to computerise the whole system (for more transparency)."
